About TSM

Temple Student Ministry (TSM) is focused on helping Middle school through College age students find their purpose and identity in Christ. TSM achieves this goal through small groups, community outreach, national and international mission trips and Wednesday night services.

Middle School

Junior high ministry at Temple is for students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. We strive to build students up to be genuine and grounded followers of Jesus that are active participants in His Kingdom. During such important transitional years, our goal is to create environments where students can find hope, a supportive community, quality mentors, a good time and experiences that engage them on all levels. The process is simple:

  • Love students where they are & encourage them to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  •  Create environments that are safe for students to explore  who they are in Christ as well as discover their gifts & engage in their purpose.
  • Connect students with leaders who will invest in them throughout their lives.

High School

Let’s start with our bottom line: We want to see students become Christ-centered Kingdom Workers. The high school ministry at Temple is here to help students and their families navigate four years of tremendous change. We aren’t supposed to do all of this alone, and it is our goal to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Every time we open our doors it is intentional and with a high school student in mind.

College (The Bridge)

The Bridge ministry is a community of 18 – 25 year olds who seek to love people where they are and encourage them to grow in their relationship with Christ. We believe that genuine worship, discipleship, local/global missions and building strong community are all essential to knowing Christ more. We have small groups that meet weekly and other monthly events to help keep people connected.

What does TSM Emphasize?

Community!      Small Groups are an opportunity for students to meet regularly with a community of students led by an adult volunteer to share life. Signups for small groups open at the beginning of each school year and then students are placed with a leader according to gender, grade and availability.

Leadership

Student Pastor

Andrew Heptinstall has served as the Student Pastor at Temple Baptist Church since 2015. Prior to joining Temple, he and his family lived in Panama City, Florida, exchanging the gulf coast for the rolling hills of North Alabama. Andrew has been married to his wife, Tracey, since 2006, and together they are the proud parents of two children, Adison and Carter.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Ministry Studies degree from The Baptist College of Florida and brings two decades of experience in student ministry. He provides leadership and oversight for Temple’s middle school, high school, and college-age ministries, with a focus on cultivating a lasting, Christ-centered faith in students. His approach emphasizes partnering with parents, equipping adult volunteers, and designing programs that foster spiritual growth and meaningful relationships.

When not engaged in ministry, Andrew enjoys spending time outdoors, including hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and relaxing in a hammock. Above all, he is deeply committed to guiding students as they discover their identity in Christ and navigate this pivotal season of life.

Middle School Pastor

Weston Cockrell

I was born and raised here in Cullman, where I’ve been blessed to be brought up by Godly parents and have been a member of Temple Baptist Church since 2002. I gave my life to Christ in October of 2012 and have had the pleasure of serving at Temple in the Worship, Life Groups, and Student Ministries. The opportunity to see God’s hand on Temple Baptist Church since I was 10 years old and being discipled through the preaching of God’s Word by Pastor Malcolm, have been instrumental in my faith and walk with Jesus.

I met my wife Blakelee here at Temple while attending a youth event together and we’ve been happily married since 2013. We are blessed to have two incredible children, Harper and Whitt.

Outside of church I enjoy hunting, fishing, sports, traveling/adventure, and most of all, time with family.

I am humbled by the opportunity to serve God in a full time capacity here at Temple and I am excited to see what He has in store!
